NEWBORN SESSION PREP GUIDE

  1. Please feed baby right before your session, and then that hour prior try and have some ‘awake’ time if possible, bath, let them kick with only a nappy on, tickle their toes, even letting them fuss for a little bit, etc. This will ensure those squishy, sleepy newborn pictures! I can’t stress enough that it is so important to do your best to keep them awake. Many parents say “baby has been sleeping all morning, but don’t worry, they sleep SO well this time of day!” only to have baby wake up and unsettled, since they will be unclothed and unswaddled.

  2. Dress baby in a button/zip up outfit, just ideally nothing that goes over baby’s head so if they’re sleepy when I arrive we don’t disturb them too much :)

  3. Please have a Dummy. Even if you haven’t used one yet or baby doesn’t seem to take to it, just for the 2-3 hours that I’m posing baby it can really help.

  4. I have a growing collection of headbands, hats, bonnets, wraps, boxes, outfits and more, so no need to have anything unless there is something special or important to your family that you’d like included, just let me know ahead of time (in your questionnaire is great) so I can include it in the flow of your session.

  5. Please set home temperature to a warm 25 degrees to ensure baby is comfortable being undressed.

  6. If you are planning on parent photos, neutral coloured clothing works best. Parent photos will take place about the last 20-30 minutes of your session.

  7. If you have other children and would like to get sibling photos, just like for you, simple neutral clothing works best! I will wrap baby up in a coordinating colour to look best with the family.
